Woven Axminster Carpets

Renowned for their excellence, woven Axminster carpets offer beauty, strength, and durability. Their robust construction makes them a popular choice for both commercial clients and homeowners seeking striking and long-lasting flooring solutions.

Axminster carpets have a rich history that dates back to 1755 when Thomas Whitty, a Devon-based weaver, was inspired by a Turkish carpet he saw in London. Determined to replicate its quality, Whitty developed the Axminster method and produced his first carpet on midsummer's day in 17551. These carpets quickly became popular among the wealthy aristocracy and were installed in prestigious locations such as the Royal Pavilion in Brighton, Chatsworth House, and Warwick Castle. Today, Axminster Carpets are renowned for their high-quality craftsmanship and are used in royal residences, luxury hotels, and homes worldwide.

The Floorist's roots trace back to its beginnings in crafting carpets, eventually specializing in Axminster carpets to serve the hospitality industry and expanding into other sectors & products as we grew. Our Axminster carpets are crafted from 80% virgin wool and 20% anti-static nylon, providing long-lasting beauty and strength for high-traffic areas. The skein-dyed, two-ply yarns deliver vivid colors that bring carpet designs to life. Perfect for prestigious and complex contract and hospitality installations, our wool-rich Axminster carpets offer substantial advantages in aesthetics, durability, and value.

As an alternative, we also offer blends of 50% wool/50% nylon and 100% nylon. Our advanced weaving technology allows us to create "woven to plan" full-length rolls, ensuring no design limitations, reduced seaming costs, and minimal waste. We produce highly complex designs with up to sixteen colors, offering exceptional flexibility and creativity.

Our design and planning teams meticulously assess initial concepts to create detailed technical drawings, ensuring perfect installation. With state-of-the-art, high-speed Axminster looms, each custom carpet is a true expression of the designer's creativity.

Did you know?

Although both woven Axminster and traditional tufted carpet use pile and backing, the weaving process is what sets Axminster apart. Each tuft of yarn is woven and locked into place by shots of backing yarn. This creates a strong, three-dimensional structure more durable than tufted carpet.
