RAISED ACCESS FLOORING SYSTEM

This is an elevated floor system installed above a sub-surface, usually a concrete slab, creating a flexible working environment by cleverly utilizing the floor void to run power and network cables. Raised floors, also known as access floors, are very cost-effective and are commonly used in data centers and other commercial spaces.

Raised access flooring systems began in the early 1950s. The need for these systems arose from the rapid adoption of computers and early data processing equipment, which required extensive cabling for power and communication1. Traditional building designs couldn't efficiently manage these cables, leading to cluttered and impractical workspaces. The first known application of raised access flooring was in 1956 by a US-based manufacturer named Solt, who introduced an elevated floor system to address these cable management challenges.

With modern technology ruling the times, offices have more cable and data lines than ever before. Electrical, data, and phone lines are neatly enclosed under an elevated floor system known as 'raised access flooring,' while still being easily accessible for underfloor air delivery systems, maintenance, and reconfiguration. Raised access flooring provides a comprehensive solution without making any compromises. It is commonly used in workspaces that rely on significant levels of computer or telecom equipment, such as financial centers, government offices, and call centers. Additionally, raised floors are installed in data processing and telecom centers to facilitate ease of cabling and wiring in the floor void.

Key components of the traditional
raised access flooring are:

Panel:

A floor plate that can be covered with a variaty of flooring finishes. There are different types of floor panels from all steel, to concrete-filled panels, woodcore panels, calcium sulphate panels, HPL finish, PVC Finish and perforated floor panels.

Pedestal:

An adjustable vertical post, which is bonded to the subfloor with mechanical fixing and an epoxy resin-based adhesive, if needed. The posts support the panels on the four corners

Stringers:

These are horizontal steel bars that connects

Types of Floor Panels

Panels form the supporting and walking surface for raised access flooring. Different types of floor panels designed for easy installation and frequent removal include:

01

Concrete-Filled Floor Panels

This is another commonly used access floor panel with formulated cementitious fill and a power coated epoxy finish. This adds to the strength of the panel providing superior stability, rigidity, and durability.

02

Calcium-Sulphate Floor Panels

A floor plate that can be covered with a variaty of flooring finishes. There are different types of floor panels from all steel, to concrete-filled panels, woodcore panels, calcium sulphate panels, HPL finish, PVC Finish and perforated floor panels.

03

Woodcore Floor Panels

The Woodcore Access Panel is constructed of a high-density chipboard. The top surface is either High Pressure Laminate (HPL), Conduct PVC or stone, while the bottom is aluminum foil or galvanized steel sheet.

04

Steel Perforated Floor Panels

A floor plate that can be covered with a variaty of flooring finishes. There are different types of floor panels from all steel, to concrete-filled panels, woodcore panels, calcium sulphate panels, HPL finish, PVC Finish and perforated floor panels.

Did you know?

Raised access flooring isn't just practical—it's also a marvel of engineering! Some systems can support loads of up to 2,000 pounds per square foot, allowing them to handle heavy equipment and high foot traffic while keeping everything neatly organized and accessible beneath the floor.
